Launch of Apollo 14

Apollo 14 lifts off, returning NASA to crewed lunar landings after the Apollo 13 emergency and sending Alan Shepard — America's first astronaut a decade earlier — to walk on the Moon at age 47. Shepard and Ed Mitchell explored the Fra Mauro highlands originally targeted by Apollo 13, and Shepard closed out the mission by hitting two golf balls across the lunar surface with a makeshift club.
