Biography

The person behind the mission

Robert D. Cabana was a U.S. Marine Corps aviator who flew four Space Shuttle missions. He commanded STS-88 in 1998, the mission that joined the American Unity module to the Russian Zarya module in orbit, the first assembly operation in the construction of the International Space Station. Cabana later served as director of NASA's Kennedy Space Center and as NASA's Associate Administrator.
